A short story
IF YOU ARE AMONG THESE PAGES TODAY, you are rich with words. Rich with teachers. You
are one of the ardent-hearted, a philosopher, a student.
Though you may not always see it, especially with your nose in a book or a magazine, you’re
in a massive city that includes ocean parks, apartment buildings, factories, sand hills, forests,
bridges, distant bands of stars . . . You don’t know how far the limits of the city extend, but it
doesn’t matter, because you will never reach them, not in this lifetime, not as yourself.
